Four Hidden Facts in Tattoo Designs

January 25, 2012 | No Comment |

Although you might have researched everything there is possibly to know about tattoos, there are some things that your tattoo artist might not reveal to you. There might be unknown fees hidden in the cost of getting a tattoo. Here is a list of things to keep in mind when you get your first or next tattoo.

Tattoo Designs

Pricing

Whenever you visit a tattoo studio, the price declared for your tattoo doesn’t encompass a custom design. Small tattoos are generally marked around $50, Medium sized tattoos are $200, and large tattoos usually cost about $500 and up. If you want a customized $200 tattoo, then you should be prepared to pay for the extra cost. Creativity takes skills and need to be rewarded. The entire point of getting a tattoo is to be as original as possible and to make a statement about yourself. Even if your studio doesn’t declare a price for their creativity, you should be prepared to budget for it and keep it in mind.

Online Design Contests

Your local art studio might not mention the existence of online design sites where you can find customized artwork. These designs are often less expensive than they’re advertised. The catch to online design contests is that you get to set the prize or price of your design. You can research a bit on the site of your choice to get an understanding of the artist’s personality. If you find an artwork that is particularly pleasing to you, then just award the artist accordingly. Be sure the award is attractive to your artist of choice. If you’re feeling a bit generous, you can even offer a bit more.

Online Designers

Tattoo studios generally have a certain theme or style that they are great at. If you go to these studios, then what you see is what you get. Due to the specialty of the studio, it might be hard to get them to try a design that you’ve requested. They may be so used to their own little niche that they will refuse your offer. However, if they do accept, be prepared to have your design modified a bit. If that doesn’t sit well with you, then you can enter hosted contests online. These online designers live all around the world, so just imagine the possibility at your hand.

Stencils

Even if your tattoo studio accepts custom design, many of them still won’t use stencils. It might be a bit common sense to use a stencil if a studio has accepted a custom client request, however that is generally not the case. After a custom design contest that you’ve scored online, make sure to take a picture of the design and a stencil whenever you visit your local studio.
